My work is primarily figurative. It interests me to observe people. I am a storyteller, but also a social commentator. A facial expression or someone's body language gives me insight into unspoken fears and joy. I transform these impressions into paintings in my studio.
As a young dance student, I was aware at an early age of the importance of body language and facial expressions. I remember dreaming of whirling out on the dance floor in the arms of a Fred Astaire or a Gene Kelly, being airborne in exquisite high heel shoes. I was interested in what could be conveyed without words. Later, painting large images, I found that just a part of a figure was enough to create a feeling.
Looking back, I still miss the beautiful "torture chambers", some of them still resting on the top shelves in my closet - crying out to entice and just waiting for an opportunity to dance.
