I enjoy using traditional weaves and patterns in a non-traditional manner and am
striving to find a harmonious balance between the natural and artificial or
planned. I like putting brightly dyed colors on a natural or neutral background
and enjoy working in an improvisational manner, seeing where it will take me
— much like jazz.
In fact, most of my inspiration is derived from jazz, whether running, walking
in nature or travelling. My grandchildren also contribute ideas that I
incorporate in my weavings. In addition, much of my inspiration comes from my
students. I have been weaving and teaching for about 40 years at my Glimakra
Weaving Studio in Berkeley and it is wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the
students as they develop their projects on their looms after I have given them
the "know how."
I was born and grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, and came to the United States in
1961. Over the years, I have exhibited sporadically in juried and other shows,
but I recently decided to get more serious about showing my art work. As a
result, my tapestries are now in many private collections.
I usually participate in the yearly East Bay Pro Arts Open Studios which are
held the first two weekends in June.
