I was born on the west coast of Norway, Syvde, and grew up in Nordfjordeid, Sogn og Fjordane,
surrounded by spectacular scenery. My backyard was mountains, fjords, rivers, waterfalls and
woodlands. I have always been interested in art and creating since I was a small child sitting
with my grandparents and parents making things using colored pencils, writing, reading and
storytelling. I truly enjoyed this more so than playing with my friends.
I moved to the United States while in my early 20's. Coming to the United States, married with
three children while working, meant that there was not much extra time. I started to experience
watercolors in 1999. I went through a serious illness and the joy of creating with colors helped
me tremendously. I am self-taught as a watercolorist and consider myself a colorist. I like to
express myself with colors, catching moods of special places and moments. Colors create
relationships, harmony and emotions. I paint a lot "wet into wet" where I can see the colors
mingling into a rainbow, using colors in an "uncontrolled" yet "controlled" manner. I also like
to use a technique called "glazing" where all the wonderful colors shine through each of the
subsequent layers, combining designs and compositions.
I like to paint with spontaneity, strong and free without inhibitions. To catch the viewer's
attention, I like to create a focal point where I have the strongest contrast, brightest colors
and details — the most interesting spot. I like to paint so the viewer not only comes back to the
focal point, but comes back again and again into the painting. I would like to make the viewer
remember my painting likening it to a book so exciting that the viewer cannot escape its
spell — cannot put it down.
My art is exhibited in many places and is found in many private collections in the United States
and in Norway.
