My goal in making art is to make doors — “thin places” that may lead the
viewer’s daily awareness to other worlds of imagination and spirit — in both my
					abstract and figurative work.
Inspiration comes from time spent in nature, a feeling of kinship with trees, the California
redwoods, the ocean. The natural world is layered, complex, interconnecting, and constantly
transforming. Travel nearby and to other countries also inspires me. Seeing new things and
new ways of seeing seem to feed each other.

In my art making, I look for new ways to work with materials, whether in my approach to
recycled catalogs in my Paper Excavations method, or in the combination of acrylic and unryu
					washi paper in my paintings.

I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. My great grandfather came from Norway and
					settled in North Dakota.
